To the Best of Our Knowledge and the Wisconsin
Book Festival joined forces Sunday October 26thfor a live
show at the Orpheum Theater in Madison, Wisconsin. Tim O'Brien,
David Maraniss, Grace Paley, Noah Adams and John Wesley Harding
were all on stage with us. It was a great day, as you'll see if
you view our photo scrapbook.
SEGMENT 1:
| This program was recorded during a special
edition of TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE on stage at
the Orpheum Theater in Madison, Wisconsin, during the Wisconsin
Book Festival. Music throughout the hour is provided by Leo
Sidran, drums; Ben Sidran, keyboard; Nick Moran, bass. Jim's
guests this segment include novelist Tim O'Brien and journalist
David Maraniss. |

Tim O'Brien has written many novels
that concern the Viet Nam war and its effects on his generation.
His most recent is "July, July." |

David Maraniss is the author of "They
Marched into Sunlight," a book about a battle that took
place at the same time as a major protest against the War. |

their own experiences of the Viet Nam War era. |

SEGMENT 2:
| Grace Paley is a writer of short stories,
poetry and essays. An American original, she once described
herself as a "combative pacifist and cooperative anarchist."
She talks with Steve Paulson about her life and her politics.

Also, NPR's Noah Adams has a new book: "The
Flyers: In Search of Wilbur and Orville Wright." It's
his fifth book. He talks about writing and radio with Anne
Strainchamps. |

SEGMENT 3:
| John Wesley Harding is a singer/songwriter
who was born Wesley Harding Stace but took his name from the
Bob Dylan album. He studied literature at Cambridge University,
and talks with Steve Paulson about how his literary sensibility
shapes his music. We also hear him perform a song containing
the entire plot of "Hamlet." |
