Becoming Biracial

September 14, 2014

What would you do if you found out your racial identity was an illusion? Lacey Schwartz was raised in a white, upper middle class, Jewish household in upstate New York. After going off to college she uncovered a closely guarded family secret — she was biracial. Lacey chronicles the revelation and her own search for identity in the documentary Little White Lie.

I was enthralled by Lacey Schwartz's story. As a black woman, I couldn't imagine a life where my racial identity was not a part of me. Lacey Schwartz's parents raised her as a white Jewish woman. So, I can only imagine how her life was turned upside down, when her parents revealed that her biological father was black.
