Frans de Waal on chimps & bonobos

June 9, 2013

Are humans unique - or really not that different from other apes?  Primatologist Frans de Waal says chimps & bonobos share many of our traits, including empathy and a sense of fairness.  He describes some of his research that challenges assumptions about human exceptionalism.

Great show ... but you could just as well be asking if chimps got there aggression from us. Our last common ancestor was neither chimp, bonobo, or human. Behaviorally, each of these descendants might have changed radically from the last common ancestor.
