Novelist Neal Stephenson writes epic, thousand-page best-sellers about science, computers, and the history of technology.  Among other things.  His novel Cryptonomicon is considered the ultimate geek novel.  Stephenson talks with us about his latest book -- a fast-paced thriller about computer viruses, the Russian mafia, and online games.  It's called "Reamde".

I was intrigued by the comment about the need for a monastic center in cities. These would be cites where people could go where and contemplate issues or problems for ease of resolution. I would ask does this person realize that there are on-off switches on all devices and one can find this monastic setting right in their own place of dwelling by just turning everything off and listen to the quiet.
