Steve James - "The Interrupters"

December 1, 2011

The Interrupters tells the moving and surprising stories of three "violence interrupters" who try to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they once doled out. They believe that violence spreads like an infectious diseases, so the treatment should be similar: stop the infection at its source.

This kind of street saavy mediation relates directly to the need for police training on the streets of America, where law enforcement personnel are more at risk themselves as they react with brute force in situation where they lack proper crowd control, and don't follow their own protocols for maintaining order while participating in PROTECTING the civil rights of nonviolent demonstrators.
