Jonathan M. Adler is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering. His research seeks to understand the most productive ways in which people make meaning of the difficult things that happen to them. In recent work he has identified several key themes in personal narratives that are associated with, and in some instances precede, improvements in mental health. His study on this topic was published in the February 2012 issue of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. He is broadly interested in adult identity development and mental health in the wake of life’s challenges. Dr. Adler also teaches undergraduates at Olin College and Wellesley College, is trained as a psychotherapist, and has directed plays.
