Finding Nature, Even in the Cold

As I write this, it’s 27 degrees in Madison. We’ve had a gorgeous fall, sunny for hikes and dog walks, warm enough for outdoor dinners and walks to our neighborhood Lake Wingra.

When we first aired “Solace in Nature,” which we repeat this week, it was May 2020, and we were heading into the lovely Wisconsin summer. And now, we are headed out of it. Being outside, and particularly being outside moving, is truly one of my de-stressors. Over the past months I’ve kept a vegetable and herb garden with varying degrees of success, planted tulips, daffodils and alliums for the spring, and tried to be out as much as possible.

It’s not like we only stay inside in the winter in our city, but I feel this year like the annual bringing up of the hats and gloves and sleeping bag coats from the basement has a new importance, an armor that will let us be outside a little longer.

I’d love to hear your ways of fall and winter nature solace. Let me know at listen@ttbook.org.
