…that I’m doing again. As you listen to this week’s show, Steve and I will be driving down the California coast to Big Sur, followed by Sequoia National Park and Yosemite – iconic, spectacular places we’ve been meaning to visit for years. I’m dreading it already. The driving, I mean – not the destinations.
The summer road trip is a hallowed American institution, but it’s always struck me as one of those things – like baseball, school plays, and childbirth – that sounds like a good idea, but in practice feels friggin’ endless. Also hot, boring and uncomfortable.
Luckily, this week’s show about road trips is none of those things. It’s a remix of old and new: a long-haul trucker’s life on the road; a trip inspired by the 1957 “Negro Motorist Green Book;” a Saudi feminist’s first drive; and a three-year journey to the North Pole. Download it and you can travel with us virtually. Just remember to bring your own snacks.
