Meet You There

On this week's show, "Why Do We Meet?," we delve into the human connection, our real life interactions in an age of being online all the time. The threat of social isolation is real, and fears and quarantines surrounding the new coronavirus has added a whole new element.

At work, while we have Skype, Zoom and conference calls, there's also something different about a face-to-face meeting. You can read body language, sense when it's your turn to talk and get to know co-workers better. But not all meetings are productive.

After our segment in the show featuring meeting guru Mamie Stewart, "That Completely Pointless Meeting is Entirely Preventable," our TTBOOK team changed some of what we do. Our executive producer Steve Paulson sends out an agenda that we can prepare for ahead of the meeting, we try to keep more on time, and our digital producer Mark Riechers takes notes and puts them up on a Google Doc. We are not perfect. If Mark's not there, we forget to take notes. But we learned a lot putting this show together and hope you, too, have a useful — and fun — meeting in the future.
