
There’s a Maya Angelou quote that I often think about as we’re producing an episode of TTBOOK: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
We hope in each show you’re learning new things, enjoying the conversation and coming up with some questions of your own. But an even deeper hope is that TTBOOK made you feel something. There’s no one right answer or emotion – surprise, joy, sadness, even a sense of being uncomfortable. Maybe a feeling of being less alone.
This week’s episode, “Cultivating Wonder,” brought out some powerful feelings for our guests and interviewers. We talk with Lulu Miller of Radiolab about her new show for kids, “Terrestrials,” and the mystery of nature and child-like wonder. Psychologist Dacher Keltner dives into the science of being awestruck, and experiences with grief. Jennifer Michael Hecht, a poet and historian, leads us through the spirituality of poetry and how it can give meaning and beauty in a secular world.
