Ever since I started working on a show about dreams – this weekend’s "In Your Dreams" – I’ve been having the most vivid and memorable dreams. I can’t explain it all, but I think that paying more attention to my dreams, telling my husband about them, and writing them down has given me a more powerful dream life. It began by spending time with the New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast, interviewing her about her new book "I Must Be Dreaming," and talking about what an amazing thing that our own dreams – from our own brains – can surprise us and often confuse us so much.
Over a zoom call, Anne and dream psychologist Rubin Naiman shared big dream stories that have much in common. After that interview, I had a dream that connected to their dreams. I told our staff about it in a meeting and Mark shared one of his dreams. We were suddenly like a dream circle or dream therapy group, and we delved into what Naiman calls the “states of consciousness” as a team, before we got back to editing and writing.
You’ll hear too from Steve talking with Kelly Bulkeley about the spirituality of dreaming, and Annabel Abbs-Streets telling Anne about how women in particular can embrace their night selves. I hope listening to this episode changes your dream life too, in some way. And if you’d like to share a dream with us, email us at listener@ttbook.org.
