Grateful for You

Dear Friends,

I don’t say this enough: Thank you. Thank you for the gift of your time and attention. Thank you for listening to “To the Best of Our Knowledge” and for subscribing to this newsletter. So much goodness flows from your presence here every week.

What we choose to read, watch, or listen to shapes the world inside our minds. I spend an hour reading the news every morning and with each worried op-ed, I can feel my heart and outlook sink further. Being informed is important, but it sure takes a toll – individually and also collectively. Certainly our national mood is on the grim side right now. But when you choose to give your attention, even briefly, to something that sparks a bit of wonder or inspires open-ended curiosity, whether about whale songs or Icelandic elves or new evidence for life beyond death, you can feel the internal shift.

There’s an old network TV term that I like for this – counterprogramming. A way to leverage and attract attention – in this case, toward a brighter, more hopeful outlook. l think we can all benefit from that. Thank you for caring about what you listen to, and for being an integral part of the audio world we build every week. You are the reason we’re here.
