If there was ever a good time and place to be a witch, it was America in the late 1980s. Feminists re-claimed the mother goddess, neo-pagans revived earth magic and women everywhere started covens. Among them, the girls field hockey team at Danvers High School in Massachusetts. At least, that’s how Quan Barry imagines it in her recent novel, “We Ride Upon Sticks.”
